This young man won my heart at the Youth Author Conference

I was invited to be a guest author at the 2016 Youth Author Conference, held inWarrensburg, Central MO Univ. That is where I met Bryan, age 9. Bryan entered a story titled My Favorite Thing about Christmas Break.  The entire story was heartwarming … and I want to share the ending:

“… It’s better to give than to get. In that you will learn that giving is loving and loving is giving, and that is the true meaning of Christmas. I love Christmas but I love my family even more.”

What a blessed family and awesome young man!

Another great event at Shook Elementary, April 21, 2016

How I adore my friend Evelyn Hoover, a wonderful lady who is compassionate, selfless and steady as a rock for all.  Evelyn has always ‘made a difference’ in the lives around her.

Am so excited to be invited to the 33rd Annual Young Authors’ Conference where I will be writing encouraging evaluations for 2nd – 6th grade future authors. This event is held at the University of Central Missouri and will include 150 children with their parents and grandparents.  What a wonderful event – can’t wait to meet more Dream Travelers!  I will be asking these young authors to provide me with ideas regarding Spike’s magical abilities for book two of The Dream Travelers – what fun!

Be Kind to Animals Week

Had a WONDERFUL time working with Chelsey Miller, rescue and volunteer coordinator of the Humane Society of SWMO.  After a week of presenting Be Kind to Animals to area school children, we celebrated 50 adoptions (cat and dog)!  Everyone who adopted from HSSWMO last week received a free copy of The Dream Travelers – From the Beginning.

Willard East Tigers Love Dream Traveling & HSSWMO!

What a FANTASTIC reception and audience at Willard East Elementary School this week!  The Dream Travelers and Chelsey Miller with the Humane Society of SW MO celebrated Be Kind to Animals Week with hundreds of children in the Springfield area.  All of the students were wonderful, but the Willard kids (and great librarian, Lisa Hillenburg) went above and beyond to welcome us.  The 4th grade Tigers were wonderful – extremely polite, attentive, and asked some very good questions.  Thank you to all who made this a very special week by adopting a dog or cat from the HSSWMO and welcome all of you new Dream Travelers!

A Dream Travelers Reunion

Another fulfilling week for The Dream Travelers!  I was an invited guest author at the Ella Dickey Literacy Awards for the 10th annual Cherry Blossom Festival, where this young reader told me The Dream Travelers was the best book she had ever read (couldn’t ask for a better review!).  Then on to Shook Elementary for the Write-On Festival, where I was reunited with my book illustrator, Hailey Kiser, in town from Seattle.  What a talented artist and beautiful person … inside and out!

The best Dream Travelers question yet!

A wonderful visit with 4th and 5th graders at Lathrop Elementary School on Friday, Feb. 13.  Many questions were what most children ask – About the book’s characters, am I going to write another book, is there going to be a movie?  Today, many asked about Spike … how old is he, what type of dog is he, and was he abused?  But the best question of the afternoon had to of been from a young boy.  He said he thought in the picture of me that the school librarian had posted, my hair looked “kind of red.”  His question – “Do you dye your hair?”

Ah!  From the mouths of babes!  🙂

KC book signing huge success!

A fantastic day at the Barnes & Noble in Independence, MO, where store managers said The Dream Travelers set a book signing store record for the year!  Meeting children and signing books for future Dream Travelers is always a delight for me, but the best part of this day was the re-connection of old friends and RHS classmates.  Not only did they attend the signing, they also hosted a reunion reception afterwards.  What a wonderful group of faithful friends!  The last picture is one of me and Marilyn Shontz-Kuehn, a friend since elementary school.  Thank you to everyone who came!!B&NKCgroupKCparty1me&Marilyn
